MAYOR'S CORNER

Well it is finally here, the 2010 Census Data for Alabama. Alabama has grown significantly to over 4,700,000. DeKalb County has grown also to over 71,000. The largest gain was here in Sylvania, over a 54% increase in population to 1,847. This is a significant increase, one showing we are on the right track, placing the community first and taking steps to provide the services that have not been provided in the past. We are continuing our efforts to bring in more business's to Sylvania to provide not only local jobs but to provide local shopping opportunities, especially with the continuing raising of gas prices. We are in the process of repairing roads and have a couple large road repair projects taking place this spring, and we are improving our Public works Dept. to better care for the many duties they perform for the community. Our goal of providing the best equipment to our Police Dept. and Fire Dept. is continuing, as we are committed to the safety of all here in Sylvania.
